India’s CBIC and New Zealand Customs have agreed to exchange trade-in-goods origin data electronically in advance. The arrangement is intended to strengthen customs cooperation and support the effective use of trade preferences under the India–New Zealand FTA, which entered into force on 20 October 2026.
For MSMEs exporting goods between the two countries, this is a useful development to track. Exporters should still check whether their product qualifies for an FTA preference and meet the applicable rules of origin and documentation requirements.
Before quoting or shipping: confirm the product’s tariff treatment, origin requirements and required documents with your customs broker or export promotion council.
