The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has revised the turnover thresholds for registration and licensing of Food Business Operators (FBOs) through an order dated 13 March 2026. The updated limits will come into effect from 1 April 2026.
Old vs New Turnover Thresholds
• Basic Registration: ₹12 lakh → ₹1.5 crore
• State License: ₹12 lakh – ₹20 crore → ₹1.5 crore – ₹50 crore
• Central License: Above ₹20 crore → Above ₹50 crore
Impact:
Many small food businesses will now require only basic FSSAI registration instead of a license, reducing compliance requirements.
Note:
Businesses involved in imports, exports, or operating in multiple states may still require a Central License regardless of turnover.
