What is Udyam Registration?
Udyam Registration is the official MSME identity issued by the Ministry of MSME, Government of India. It gives your business a permanent Udyam Number and MSME Certificate.
Udyam is not mandatory, but it is strongly recommended because it establishes your MSME status and is required to access most MSME benefits, including loans, subsidies, and tender advantages.
Why is Udyam Registration Needed?
Businesses register under Udyam for:
- Priority in government tenders
- Access to MSME loans & credit guarantee schemes
- Lower interest rates under CGTMSE/credit programs
- Delayed payment protection
- Eligibility for subsidies, incentives & state benefits

Legal Classification Criteria

If a business meets both criteria, it can register as an MSME.

- Retail & wholesale traders, through the Udyam Assist Platform (UAP), for credit-linked MSME benefits
