India’s trade engagement with Latin America has progressed with recent negotiation rounds held with Peru and Chile. The 9th round of talks with Peru and the 3rd round with Chile saw discussions across multiple chapters, including trade in goods and services, rules of origin, technical barriers, customs procedures, dispute settlement, investment promotion, intellectual property, SPS/TBT measures, economic cooperation, and critical minerals.
Officials from both countries expressed commitment to moving these agreements toward a timely conclusion. During the interactions, India highlighted that the partnerships could create openings in areas such as critical minerals, pharmaceuticals, automobiles, textiles, and food processing, while Peru and Chile reaffirmed their interest in strengthening overall trade and investment ties.
For MSMEs, these developments indicate potential scope to observe how the agreements evolve, particularly in areas referenced during the discussions. As further meetings are planned—including the next India–Peru round proposed in New Delhi in January 2026—businesses can begin tracking how these frameworks may support future trade possibilities.
