India Semiconductor Mission 2.0, announced in the Union Budget 2026–27, marks a focused step towards strengthening India’s semiconductor self-reliance. The initiative builds on the progress of ISM 1.0 and shifts attention towards domestic production of semiconductor equipment and materials, full-stack chip design, and stronger supply chains.

With a budget provision of ₹1,000 crore for FY 2026–27, the mission places strong emphasis on industry-led research, innovation, and skill development to support advanced manufacturing and design capabilities. It aims to deepen India’s role across fabrication, packaging, testing, and semiconductor IP creation.

The programme aligns with India’s long-term vision of reducing external dependence, supporting critical sectors such as electronics, telecom, automotive, defence, and AI, and positioning the country as a reliable participant in global semiconductor supply chains.
